Rongtheang FestFrom tomorrow, the 8th Rongtheang Fest is starting. The Rongtheang Festival is a traditional festival of the people of Karbi Anglong in Assam, India which is presently into its eighth year. Celebrated over a three-day period in Rongtheang village of Karbi Anglong every year, the festival has within a very short time become a much loved and popular festival of the people of Karbi Anglong and adjoining areas. It is a fest which was conceptualized and being organized each year by the Eastern Beats Music Society. The fest was originally conceived to help channelize the frustrations and unspent energy in youths, who also happen to be highly talented, in the terror torn district of Karbi Anglong towards a creative and positive direction. This was a very wise mission and it was highly appreciated by all and today people from all over the Northeast participate in the event. It is now a part of the tourism calendar of many tourists.

A part of the fest is the Karbi Anglong Beats Contest. It was first held in the memory of the serial blasts in Assam on 30th October, 2008. It is the first rock contest in India being held at a remote village. It saw a huge success and it broadened the spectrum of people coming to perform in the fest.

This fest has brought hope in the minds of the people. We have always heard about music healing, but it is perhaps the best example of that. I have always wanted to meet the people behind the fest as they always inspire me. Inspire me to be good.

Salute to you guys! You guys really rock. \m/
