India enjoys the demographic advantage of having the youngest workforce with an average age of 29 years in comparison with the advanced economies. India is moving progressively towards becoming a global knowledge economy. However, despite the political will, private sector interest and demographic advantage, India continue to struggle to bridge the demand – supply gap. India records a low 5% of workforce who are ready to become employable. With the growing number of people who are migrating to other countries for jobs, the international jobs market will become increasingly competitive. It is therefore, now or never opportunity to re-fix our education and skill management system so that India become the global leader.
Skill Development is a multi-level, multi-party initiative, involving a large number of participants. Under Skill India initiative, India has exhibited a focused approach toward technical education by setting up a E & ICT (Electronics and Information, Communication Technology) academy at IIT, Guwahati for skill development for the graduating students. The assessment and certification will be done by E & ICT, Guwahati. Under these programs, all key stakeholders of the knowledge delivery ecosystem, primarily- Government, Industry, Training Providers, and Academia are working in a coherent and focused approach.
